The supply of a Legionnaires’ illness outbreak in Atlanta that left one girl lifeless and sickened dozens of different folks was a downtown lodge they’d visited, Georgia public well being officers confirmed this week.

Micro organism was found in a cooling tower and an ornamental fountain within the atrium of the Sheraton Atlanta Resort, Nancy Nydam, a spokeswoman for the Georgia Division of Public Well being, stated on Friday.

“Remediation to your entire lodge water distribution system” has been accomplished, and testing and sampling of the water on the lodge will proceed, Ms. Nydam stated.

The lodge reopened Thursday after being cleared by well being officers, Andrea Holden, a spokeswoman for Sheraton Atlanta, stated in an announcement. The lodge voluntarily closed on July 15.
