Cheryl was accused of “drowning fans from head to toe in wine” during her theatrical debut last week.
The former Girls Aloud star began her three-month stint in Ghost Story 2:22 over the weekend, receiving rave reviews for her first performance.
Cheryl, 39, followed in Lily Allen and Laura Whitmore’s footsteps by playing the lead role of Jenny in the show.
She roared with admiration as fans flocked to see her West End debut at London’s Lyric Theater over the weekend.
But one fan lashed out at the singer’s first performance on Saturday, saying he was “soaked from head to toe” in wine.
Taking to Twitter, the theater-goer wrote to her followers:
She followed up: “Cheryl knocked over a glass of wine during the show (it should happen) and she practically poured the entire glass on me.
“It literally pooled in my jeans and sat soaking wet for the rest of the show. This pooled in my jeans.”
She joked that she was “blessed,” so theater patrons shrugged off the accident, even though her jeans were ruined.
It came less than a week after she debuted, after Cheryl’s theater show fell into disarray after her co-star was forced to withdraw.
Hugo Cheggin dropped out due to illness during rehearsals and was replaced by EastEnders legend Jake Wood.
Jake was one of the original cast members of 2:22 Ghost Story, which opens at the Noel Coward Theater in summer 2021, along with Lily Allen, Julia Chan, and Hadley Fraser.
Jake will perform from January 26th until the end, with his stand-in Ben Cutler covering the previews leading up to the show.
Ben has been on stage since the first premiere on Saturday. Hugo was sick from the beginning and could not participate.
Despite the turmoil, Cheryl is expected to make £1,000 overnight for her performance as lead lady Jenny.
Cheryl’s West End debut was destined to be her career comeback, which had been out of the limelight.
