England are now looking to their defense. ODI World Cup Titled when I traveled to India for the Showpiece event in October of this year.
Over the years, one of the UK team’s standout players has been Joe RootThe former England Test captain has set his sights on the upcoming tour to New Zealand starting on 16th February.
Root, who plays for Dubai Capitals in the DP World ILT20 league, which plays in the United Arab Emirates, discussed his change of technique, England’s 2023, in an exclusive interview with TimesofIndia.com. World Cup A plan, a great run in whiteball cricket and many more…
England recently witnessed a revolution of sorts in whiteball cricket. Your take on it…
Clarity and confidence are very important. You see the whiteball team. The depth of strength we have, the number of players we have. They join the team and run from scratch. A big reason for that is that there is fierce competition. The team has a huge amount of talent and players can cover many bases. In Test cricket, everyone goes out and plays in the moment.
Next month is a great opportunity. we go to new zealand I hope that we can reproduce what we have done so far in such a situation and grow and develop further as a team. We have to continue to grow in confidence, continue to evolve as a group as we have done so far, and add everything up to keep taking big steps as a team.
Do you think England will be under pressure as defending champions on Indian terms at the next ODI World Cup?
There is always pressure in the World Cup and big tournaments. that’s part of it. It doesn’t matter if you’ve conquered them all in the last four years. It’s about how you step up to the opportunity. Make sure you’re ready and tick all the boxes you want and we’ll deliver on those terms. It’s a year.
One thing I probably have now that I didn’t have four years ago is a little more experience. There are still many players who have played in Indian conditions. It’s great to have that experience. In such a situation, a player who played a lot of cricket (in India) would be most important.
England don’t want to overcomplicate things. All we do is trust ourselves, build confidence and make sure we are ready to peak at the right moment at the right time. That’s all.
We have seen a change in your batting style. Added some unorthodox shots to the repertoire. Is this because cricket has become more fluid and demanding?
See how I was hitting early in my career and how I am now. has changed quite dramatically. Perhaps the same can be said for many players who have been playing for the last decade or so. I think it’s different if you look at the various techniques from when you started.is the same as Steve SmithSame as Kane Williamson.
To evolve as a player, you have to keep looking. You cannot stand still. Depending on the amount of technology and information the opposing team or individual has and how they play if you stand still, they will find ways to get you out. You have to try to stay ahead of the curve, you have to be smart and you have to keep increasing what you have in terms of skills.
It’s about trying to keep getting better, evolving and learning from the major players around the world. Don’t have an ego. Always look to get better. Trust me, it will serve you well.
Ben Stokes (Getty Images)
Is Ben Stokes the best all-rounder in the world?
yes. i’m biased But yes. One of the things Ben can do is he can win games on his own. He can change things with a ball. He needs just one spell to turn things upside down, the other being his captain. I’ve seen how good a leader he is. He’s a great leader – both as captain and as a senior player. He leads from the front and his action on the field is amazing.
He does hard yards. He bowls his 10-over spell. He whiteballs himself into a hotspot on the cricket field. We’ve seen what he can do in pressure situations, especially with the bat. Watch his test innings at Headingley against Australia, or the World Cup final. For me it is very difficult to replicate.
You can look at the numbers and the stats, but how often he stands up when it really matters. And that’s what sets him apart from everyone else. Yes, he is the best all-rounder in the world.
