A Marvel superfan didn’t give his daughter such a great name.
The unhappy girl’s name was shared on Reddit, with critics decrying it as “fandom-ish”.
Reddit user u/isocleat We have shared a gallery of unique baby names for real newborn boys and girls.
On the list is a girl named Alliance Ray’Lee and a boy named Copper Colin.
However, one of the most popular dislikes among commentators seems to be a homage to the Marvel Universe.
It refers to two characters instead of one.
New parents Alicia and Johnny announced the birth of their daughter online, revealing they named her Loki Morningstar.
Loki is a god in Norse mythology, but many people today are familiar with the name Loki from the Thor films and the Disney+ series starring Tom Hiddleston.
Morningstar also has mythological roots, as well as more obscure Marvel comic book links.
Reddit commenters were horrified by the name, with one calling it “very fandomy” and another lamenting “that poor kid.”
“Why bother calling him Avenger Satan?” asked one. “Or are we geeks and everyone should know?”
“We should have named him ‘Otaku Alert,'” echoed another.
“I think someone was eating Morningstar sausage while watching Thor,” he joked.
“Loki Morningstar is a name for a dog. I know it means Viking, but it’s definitely one of the dogs in my dog play group at nursery school,” another person lectured.
Another critic said, “When Loki Morningstar becomes a troubled nightmare kid, they owe no one but themselves. They just live up to his name.” .
