Jordan’s unexpected career news was made public on Friday, after The Sun reported on his new job at a rival station to I’m A Celeb.

After Radio 1 told how Jamie stood his ground, many fans were not happy, with the majority saying an amateur presenter should have been given the chance instead.

Taking 24 hours to digest the comments, Jamie revealed his sadness at the brutal backlash.

He reposted the following comment on social media: “You’re making fun of Jamie Laing. Who on this planet would want to listen to his pompous nonsense?

“We need to bring back meritocracy so that ordinary people have the opportunity to be considered.”

Jamie added his own perspective, writing: “This is my first comment, but it might be a little too true…Maybe I should stop here for today.”

Jamie is no stranger to Radio 1, having appeared on numerous shows in the past.

Jamie reacted to his new role earlier in the week, saying: “I’ve loved every minute of being on air on Radio 1 over the last few years, so to be joining Vic on Drivetime is absolutely incredible.” .

“I’m so excited to get started and be able to accompany our listeners on their way home.”

Earlier today, Jordan, 34, opened up for the first time at the Shock Station switch.

What you have taught me over the past 24 hours has meant so much.

“I would like to personally thank all of our amazing presenters. It was so much fun working with you all! Katie Thistleton, Greg James, Ariel Free, Ricky, Melvin and Charlie, Dean and Vicki, Clara Amfo, Matt & Molly, Scott Mills, Grimmie and all the other wonderful people, and of course my partner in crime Vic Hope…I will miss being on the air with you every day.

“Most importantly, a huge thank you to all of our amazing listeners who have been so generous and always made me feel welcome. Your kind words and messages have been so sweet. Thank you so much.”

He concluded, “I’ll be back soon. I can’t wait to see you all again.”

After Jordan’s departure was revealed this week, fans were quick to call the station a “sinking ship.”
