Wayne Sweeney, a founding member and guitarist of rock band Saliba, died of a brain hemorrhage while the band was on tour.
The news comes just hours after the band announced that the 59-year-old had undergone emergency medical care and was admitted to the ICU on Tuesday.
“Our dear brother Wayne Sweeney was found Tuesday morning in medical distress and paramedics were called,” it read. statement From the band’s official Facebook page at the time.
However, hours later, the band announced that Swinney had passed away.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our brother, Wayne Sweeney.” post read. “Wayne died of a spontaneous brain hemorrhage while on tour this afternoon.”
“I don’t know what to think or feel right now,” Saliba singer Bobby Amal said in a statement to the US Sun.
“My heart breaks for Wayne’s family, his friends and everyone who enjoyed being by his side. My heart breaks for his daughter Nikki. He loves that girl so much.” was
“He was an on-stage guitar hero with all the rock ‘n’ roll swag most guitarists dream of. Off stage, he’s a proud father, an expert on ancient aliens, and an unbeatable man.” What an incredible human being! Let him have his fun time.”
Amal, who joined the band in 2011, added that she was grateful to have spent nearly 12 years with Wayne on and off stage.
“He was the big brother I never had. I learned a lot from him and we had af********g blast together! I will have the rest of my life.” We cherish everything!
“Rest in peace, Wayne. I hope to see you again!!”
Josie Scott, who was the band’s original lead singer from 1996 until he left the band in 2011, described Swinney as his “musical soulmate”.
“Please pray for his family and all his brothers in the music industry. This is a huge loss,” wrote Scott’s wife, Kendra Sappington.
Saliva was touring in the US as part of the Spring Mayhem tour with the bands Through Fire and Any Given Sin.
The band played in Nashville, Tennessee on March 20th, just before Swinny was rushed to the hospital.
The band was scheduled to perform in Fort Wayne, Indiana on March 23rd.
