Beth Rigby has spoken out about a terrifying incident in which she “nearly got run over” just hours before a general election event.

The Sky News presenter, 48, explained that he had been out running in Grimsby before the fatal accident.

That day, Beth was due to host a live Sky News debate between Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer ahead of the general election on 4 July.

Talk on podcast Election dysfunctionBeth explained: “The night before, I woke up at 5am, wide awake and thought ‘Oh man, I’m going to do this’. I felt the adrenaline in my body and I thought I’m gonna go for a run.

“So I stayed here and drove down this road, which does a little loop and then comes out onto the main road, which is a private road, like a farm lane, and then I run back from there.”

She continued, “So I was driving along with my music blasting and I didn’t hear anything and I thought, ‘Oh, I’m nearing the end of the road,’ so I started to turn back.”

“As I was making the turn I nearly hit a moving vehicle and was almost run over.”

She continued, “I was like, ‘Ugh,’ and I pulled over and he braked. I pulled over and we looked at each other and he was super mad at me.”

“It would have been the case even if I had been in the car, because I was an Adak runner who ran with headphones on and didn’t look back or anything, and that was because I was on a dirt road.”

And that wasn’t the only mishap Beth experienced that day: She also said she lost a tooth just before hosting a live debate.

She revealed, “Right before I went on stage I realised I hadn’t eaten anything since lunch and I thought, Damn it, I better eat something.”

“I found a bag of Haribo so I started eating it. I was chewing it and the contents fell out two minutes before we were supposed to go on air!”

During the debate on June 12, Bess interviewed Mr Sunak and Mr Starmer before answering questions from the audience.

The two party leaders discussed the junior doctors’ strike. Sunak’s D-Day fiasco and Bess challenges the Chancellor on tax cuts.

But the presenter divided viewers, with The Chase star Mark Labett slamming her for her questions.

The Beast was furious at X. “I wish Beth Rigby would stop interrupting every 5 seconds. She’s not a good interviewer. #battlefornumberten.”

He later added: “Beth Rigby isn’t a good interviewer but in fairness she did her homework on the Prime Minister’s pledge ‘#battlefornumberten’.”

Meanwhile viewer Marnie defended her, writing: “Although she was sometimes poor with Starmer and too quick to interrupt, she is scathing of Sunak in her research. She does a better job with Sunak when the interviewer receives more applause for a question than the PM’s answer.”

“Watching the debates on Sky I think this format is better and Beth Rigby is a brilliant interrogator,” Murray added.
