Giovanni Pernice has been given the cold shoulder by his former Strictly co-stars after Debbie McGee broke her silence about his firing from the show.

The former magician’s assistant and widow of Paul Daniel, 65, told fans she was “heartbroken” after the BBC confirmed Daniel had been removed from the cast.

The Sun reported in May that he had resigned and was under investigation by the BBC over his behaviour during training sessions with his celebrity partner.

Last night Debbie, who starred with the star on the show in 2017, released a statement.

She shared a picture of the pair on Instagram, writing: “My heart is breaking for @giovannipernice. My experience on Strictly will always be a happy and life changing experience. Gio encouraged me through my grief and gave me the confidence to do things I never thought I could.”

Many Strictly pros follow Debbie on Instagram, but at the time of writing, not one of them has liked any of her posts.

She also has several former Strictly contestants on her follower list, but they have failed to show their support by hitting the ‘like’ button.

One supportive fan noticed the sunam and commented, “Lovely post, Debbie. Thank you.”

“It would have been nice to have had some support from his colleagues on Strictly Professional… but there hasn’t been a word. It’s a real shame. I wish he had been on the show in its 20th year.”

Hundreds more people have commented enthusiastically about Jo, with her post garnering over 9,000 likes so far.

Amanda Abbington breaks silence amid intense investigation

Joe denies any wrongdoing and has retained leading law firm Schillings to represent him after stars, reportedly including Amanda Abbington and Laura Whitmore, complained to the firm.

The Sicilian professional athlete has been called into question over his “brutal and harsh training methods”.

What does the BBC say about Giovanni?

The BBC has confirmed that Giovanni will not be appearing in the 20th anniversary series of Strictly.

The organisation previously broke its silence in May after The Sun revealed it was investigating behaviour on the dance show.

“It is the BBC’s long-standing position that we do not comment on specific matters relating to individuals and we do not normally comment on whether we are considering individual complaints,” the broadcaster said.

“There have been a number of recent media reports about high profile shows. We ask that people not indulge in speculation. Anyone with a complaint is entitled to confidentiality and a fair process.”

“When a complaint is made to the BBC we establish the facts, assess whether there is a case to respond to and, if appropriate, what steps to take, and take any necessary action.”

“All of this falls within the BBC’s duty of care to everyone involved in a complaint, which applies to both the person who makes the complaint and the person about whom the complaint is made.”

“We know that our shows have been a positive experience for many of our attendees, but we will always respond to any issues raised sensitively, fairly and with consideration for all involved.”

“We will refrain from making any further comment.”

In a press release published in June announcing further duty of care measures, Kate Phillips, the BBC’s director of unscripted, added: “The BBC takes its duty of care responsibilities extremely seriously and is constantly looking at ways to further strengthen our efforts to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of our contributors.”
