Actress Ann Reid has apparently confirmed that Halifax’s Last Tango has been discontinued and will not return to screens for Series 6.
BBC One has scrapped Halifax’s Last Tango, according to lead actor Anne Reid, who has confirmed the show won’t be returning.
The hit drama ran from 2012 to 2016, but returned for a fifth series in 2020, but no further episodes will be filmed.
Anne, 87, who played Celia Dawson on the program, recently appeared on Good Morning Britain to share the devastating news.
She continued to tease a special one-off episode during the festivities, but didn’t confirm if it would be this year.
When asked by Ed Boles about the show’s future, the actress revealed:
She later added: “That would be nice, I know Derek. [Jacobi] i talk to sara [Lancashire]I don’t know about Nikola [Walker]she said, “I think a Christmas special would be nice.”
Season 5 of the fan-favorite show, which also starred Josh Bolt, aired in 2020 after a slight delay after writer Sally Wainwright struggled to find time to write the final season.
Wainwright was busy writing Happy Valley, with Sarah Lancashire in the lead role in the BBC BBC drama alongside Siobhan Finnelan and James Norton.
The show follows former childhood friends Celia and Alan Buttershaw [Jacobi] Both were widows when they reunited in their 70s.
Both of their grandchildren helped the couple reunite before finally marrying each other after discovering that Celia was in a relationship but “unfulfilled”, thanks to social media and her came to hate married men.
Elsewhere, the show also focuses on Caroline [Lancashire] and Gillian [Walker]the daughter of Celia and Alan from a previous relationship and the polar opposite of each other.
Widowed Gillian runs a farm in West Yorkshire while working part-time in a supermarket, despite being educated in Oxford.
Caroline, on the other hand, is a private school principal, but believes that Celia’s relationship will help her “finally admit to who she really is” after falling in love with a female colleague.
Writer Sally has previously spoken candidly about the show, explaining that the show is loosely based on her mother’s subsequent relationship experiences with a former school friend.
