of The race for the role of James Bond has widened a bit with the news that popular Netflix actor Leo Woodall is considered the leading candidate for the role.

Handsome Woodall, 27, struck a chord with fans when he played the troubled yet charismatic Dexter in the dramatisation of David Nichols’ book One Day, which aired on the streaming platform earlier this year.

Now, thanks to that success, and a high-profile role in season two of hit US drama The White Lotus, the rising British star appears to be catching the industry’s attention.

The James Bond tuxedo and “License to Kill” have been waiting to be passed on since Daniel Craig last played 007 in 2021’s Die Another Day.

Since then, and before, a number of British actors have been said to be in the running for the role, from fan-favourite Venom actor Tom Hardy to Witcher star Henry Cavill, Oppenheimer Prize winner Cillian Murphy and Poldark’s Aidan Turner.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been mentioned as a leading candidate in recent months and rumors surrounding him have heated up. Potential involvement in franchisesHe revealed in December 2022 Filming the classic 007 Gunbarrel scene It appears in the official opening of every Bond film.

But recent odds have Woodall clearly favored to win compared to past favorites.

according to The star, who is currently filming Bridget Jones’s Diary with Renée Zellweger, has replaced Daniel Craig as a new entrant on the market at 7/1, according to, coming in at sixth on the list and tied with a perennial favourite.

This means he has snuck in to win over Bridgerton actor Regé-Jean Page, who is listed as 8/1.

Taylor-Johnson remains top of the betting at 4/6, with Henry Cavill (7/2) and James Norton (5/1) the other strong contenders.

Theo James is also available at 6/1 after his successful starring role in Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series The Gentleman, while 32-year-old rising star Damson Idris is at 11/2.

He previously got his break in US crime drama Snowfall and will next be seen in an untitled Formula One drama alongside Brad Pitt, Sir Lewis Hamilton and Javier Bardem.

“Following reports several months ago that Aaron Taylor-Johnson had been offered the role, it seemed like the obvious choice for the next James Bond, but the long period of silence has led to plenty of speculation among fans about new developments in the story,” spokesman Lee Astley said in a statement.

That twist could come in the form of Leo Woodall, the actor becoming a betting favourite following his roles in The White Lotus and One Day.

“Woodall is new to the market at 7/1 and has instantly become one of the front-runners for the role.”

Either way, the actor’s profile will no doubt skyrocket with rumours he will star in the fourth Bridget Jones movie in 2025, playing the widowed husband. Toyboy’s love interest, a rock star.

Candidate Johnson is probably intense casting Speculation When asked directly about it in April at the premiere of his new film, The Fall Guy, in which he stars alongside Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, he replied:

When asked if he’s tired of people asking him about Bond, the star paused, sighed, chuckled and then answered bluntly: “Are you tired of getting asked that question?”

“No, because I want to know,” the reporter replied, to which the actor replied, “Have fun,” before ceasing any further conversation and moving along the rows of press seats.

Since then, reports have died down significantly, with Taylor-Johnson even denying she’d been given the role back in March.
