SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket is ready for liftoff from Cape Canaveral on Tuesday carrying the U.S. Air Pressure’s subsequent GPS 3-series navigation satellite tv for pc destined for an orbit greater than 12,000 miles above Earth.
The 229-foot-tall (70-meter) rocket is poised for launch from pad 40 at Cape Canaveral Air Pressure Station in Florida at 3:55:48 p.m. EDT (1955:48 GMT) Tuesday on the opening of a 15-minute launch window.
The Lockheed Martin-built GPS Three SV03 satellite tv for pc mounted atop the rocket is the third member of an upgraded technology of GPS navigation spacecraft, that includes higher-power indicators which might be extra resilient to jamming, and extra broadcast frequencies to make the GPS community extra interoperable with different navigation satellite tv for pc fleets.
In contrast to SpaceX’s earlier launch of a GPS payload in 2018, the mission will fly a barely completely different profile to order gas for touchdown of the Falcon 9 booster. Learn our mission preview story for extra data.
