Many were baffled when the man Steven Spielberg hailed ‘saved the movie’ didn’t show at Sunday night’s Oscars, but don’t worry – he had his reasons .
The 60-year-old star was filming the next installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise, Dead Reckoning Part 2, due for release in 2024.
But the Jerry Maguire star took a break from his busy schedule to join former Britain’s Got Talent judge David, 51, and his friend Sir Michael on Tuesday night for an intimate get-together. It looked like they were celebrating with dinner.
The children’s book author posted snaps on social media posing with Minority Report star and Hollywood veteran Sir Michael.
The trio are all smiling in various snaps, some of which show Tom and Sir Michael sitting side by side and enjoying each other’s company.
David only appears in one carousel of snaps, standing behind Sir Michael and Tom, all grinning for the camera.
In one of the shots, Sir Michael was seen giving a speech at the table, with a microphone in hand, as grateful dinner guests looked on.
It looked like a star-studded event, and Loose Women star Dennis Welch, 64, was also in attendance.
Dennis took to social media to mark the event with an adorable selfie of him hugging Sir Michael from behind as he sat at a table.
Along with the image, she wrote, “Happy 90th Birthday Michael Caine!!! We love you.”
Dennis, chilling with the stars Snapped at Taylor Swift, Charlie XCX, and son Matty Healy’s 1975 gig.
Sir Michael, meanwhile, was recently photographed with disgraced former Prime Minister Liz Truss in a combination we never expected to see.
Tom’s outing comes after director Steven credited him and Top Gun: Maverick, which he starred in and produced, for saving the film.
Stephen told Cruz At the 2023 Academy Luncheon: “You saved Hollywood’s a**, so you might as well have saved theatrical distribution.”
The sequel to 1986’s Top Gun missed out on the Oscar for Best Picture, but won Best Sound.
The film was a huge success, becoming the highest-grossing theatrical release of 2022.
